Diary #3

A couple of summer's ago, me and Scout met our friend Dill. When we first met em he tried to impress us by bein able to read. I thought he was puny for his age, but we eventually became pretty good friends. He used to tell me and Scout about books he was reading and we'd act them out sometimes. Another thing we used to do with Dill was spy on Boo Radley. It was fun havin him around because usually It's be just me and Scout and it was fun to have another boy around. Only bad part is Dill has to go back home after summer was over. Once he even snuck into our house and nearly scared Scout to death from hiding under our bed. He told us how his mom didn't pay any attention to him and how he hated living there. Over the years I've learned that Dill doesn't like to face hard situations. His anwser is always to run away or tuen to his imagination. It's somethin I really like about em, though.

Diary #2

Lately Scout, Dill, Jem and I have been payin a lot of attention to Boo Radley's house. We hear that he's crazy from a few people in town but it doesn't seem that way to us. Every now and then when we're walkin by the Radley house, we find little toys in the knot in the tree. This happened for awhile until one day we passed by and the knot had been filled. At first we were very upset but eventually decided Mr. Radley filled the knot because he didn't want Boo havin anything to do with us. Since Dill's been in town, we even snuck into the Radley yard. We had to run away though because we heard someone coming. We went so fast that my pants got caught on the fence and I had to go home without them. We told the adults that we were playin strip poker so they wouldn't be suspicious. Of course i had to go back for em later but it was an adventure.

Diary #1

Today Tom Robinson was convicted guilty of raping Mayella Ewell. I just don't understand how it could have happened. Atticus did such a good job defending him and all the evidence pointed to his innocence. If only I could have been on that jury to stand up for Tom. All anybody cared about was that Mayella is white and Tom wasn't. Me and Scout sat with Calpernia and the people from her church in the balcony. They all seemed greatful to Atticus for helping Tom. It gave me a little more hope that maybe there are a few good people in this town.

Bio

My name is Jem Finch. I am a young boy growin up in a small town called Maycomb, Alabama. I have a father named Atticus and a sister named Scout. My mother passed away when i wasn't very old so its just me Scout, Atticus, and Calpernia. My father works as a lawyer in our town. I look up to him and go to him for advice whenever I need it. Not too long ago Atticus represented a black man named Tom Robinson in court. "Atticus says cheating a black man is ten times worse than cheating a white". I've always liked that about Atticus. He doesn't care about what skin color someone has. People in Maycomb think he's crazy for representing a black man, but i just don't get it. "If there's just one kind of folks, why can't we all get along with eachother?''. Since we were young Atticus has always taught me and my sister to put our feet in other people's shoes before making decisions about them. Me and Scout also know this guy named Boo Radley. For the longest time we used to try and sneak around his house to get a glimpse of him. Everyone in town thinks he's crazy because he never leaves his house, but i disagree. "I'm beginning to understand why Boo Radley's stayed shut up in the house all this time. It's because he wants to stay inside." I think he sees how unkind people here are. Sometimes I even think he's smart for stayin in.
